My Journey

Sadly I don't recall ever feeling good about exercising. I didn't seem to have any sporting talents when I was young, and was often the last one picked for teams, which did nothing to improve my confidence.

I was fortunate throughout my 20's and 30's to be fairly slim, although I often felt insecure about my appearance and thought I was always a few kilos overweight.
During my early 40's I'd gained and lost 10 kilos, to annoying find by my last 40's I'd gained 20 kilos - which wasn't helped by the COVID lockdowns and working too many hours each week, for too many years, sitting at a desk.
The combination of extra weight, lack of fitness activities, and age, had caught up with me and I was finding things that used to be easy were now hard. When I went on a holiday to the Kimberley I was the second youngest on the trip, but the least fit, and given I hoped to still have decades of travel ahead of me, I knew I needed to start doing things differently.
Then, just as I turned 51, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and everything changed instantly. All the normal priorities disappeared and my life was dominated by medical appointments and active treatment from December 2023 to September 2024.
I am now moving into the new, uncharted territory of recovery, and having been facing my mortality I feel a real urgency to make things happen as quickly as possible.
What do I want in terms of my health, fitness, and wellbeing?
I want to feel at one with my body again, and to feel great about how I look.
I want to feel positive about my future and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy travelling as much as I can within Australia and overseas.
I want to regain my physical, emotional, and mental fitness
The process of dealing with breast cancer has been traumatic and I feel quite shattered inside. I have a wonderful support network of friends and family, but there is still a lot of personal work I need to do, to become the new best version of myself possible post cancer.
Writing LIFE-STYLE-FIT is the vehicle I've chosen to help me navigate this journey, to find the inspiration I need to get the results I want, and I hope in the process, some of the information I share, may one day inspire others as well.
