We only get one body to see us through life, and despite the amazing things that our bodies do for us every day (breathing, moving, sensing, healing etc.), so many of us sadly look in the mirror and feel disappointment.
The statistics in Australia are concerning:
"Your body image is how you perceive, think and feel about your body. This can include your body’s size, shape and weight, or individual body parts.....
Body image issues affect people of all ages, genders and across all cultures. Recent research suggests that 80 per cent of Australian women are dissatisfied with their bodies to some degree." Better Health Channel
Around the world and across genders the issues are mirrored:
"More than 50% of adults from the US, UK, Australia, France and Germany reported experiencing weight stigma." Break Binge Eating
We need to find ways to view ourselves differently, better, and more fairly.
Every body is uniquely beautiful and everyone has value just as they are.
If you have been struggling to look at yourself with love, please take the time to say and think kind things about yourself (and others) today.
If you need a little inspiration ....and you haven't seen it yet, watch the documentary Embrace. It was made in 2016 and is as relevant today as ever.
There is no one right body shape, and this is fantastic reminder to love our bodies and celebrate our lives.
